Thanks for stopping by, and your feedback :) Georg Kajanus made 3 albums in the 80s as Data, he wrote the songs, played mostly all the Instruments, did the programming and the production. A very talented and underrated artist, imo. He produced several records for Peter Godwin. Kajanus is mostly known for his work with Sailor (not my cup of tea), but Data is worth a listen for fans of electronic music. Cheers :)

Allo Alain! Thank you for stopping by on my channel :) It's a long story, going back to 84, when these 3 mysterious guys from Germany triggered the start of my musical journey. I agree, there is something special about this sound. It's not easy to say exactly what it is, it's the sum of many parts. I am not a professional, just crazy obsessed with synthesizers and figuring out how to do certain things. :) I do know most of what gear they used but I don't know where and how they used it. Well, after making these instrumentals, I have some clues :) AND I have gained even more respect for the craftsmanship behind these productions. You don't need the exact same instruments for this type of overall sound, but some individual sounds are very spesific to an instrument, or an effect. I have some of the instruments and some plugins. You come a long way with plugins of Jupiter-8, PPG, Linndrum and 808. With Talk Talk you can add an Oberheim Obx, if I remember correctly :)

@@Alain_Lacaze.6 no problem! I am from Norway. AVOL is in the making, as we speak :) I posted a teaser/update here on this channel just a few days ago. Yes, the 1st Harvest version is awesome! For now I am focusing on the Forever Young album versions. After that, we will see :) It's extremely time consuming to recreate these tracks. I can spend one full day just looking for one sound, and maybe end up not finding it, haha. It's really insane! I'm glad you enjoyed my version of BIJ. This is what motivates me to do it. I always wanted to hear the instrumentals but they're still unreleased, so I have to make them myself 😁 Btw, I have my own "synthpop" project if you are interested. Hi, thanks for visiting my channel. That is quite a broad/huge question. But if you are aiming for something very much like the early alphaville stuff, I would say it's very much the bassline and the synth melodies. It's very much about finding the right sounds. You can play alphaville songs on a guitar and it sounds nice, but the production is what makes the magic, for me :) Pads are less important. Keep it simple and add little details and spices here and there. It's difficult to answer this in a short message. I hope this was helpful. Good luck :)

Should it stay on the root note? Or should it also play the main melody? I know music cannot be contained in such pre-defined boxes but do you please have a generic explanation to build on? @@74goldenjet

@@sol3cito33 no problem. Most of the time you just play the root notes, find a groove. 80s synthpop is about making something catchy with simplicity. Things you can play with one finger :) I like to imagine that the bass tells a story, or that the bass is like a road the main character is walking on. Something like that. Start simple, imagine a punk band, New wave synthpop evolved from punk. A guitar, a bass, drums and vocals = a couple of synths, a drum machine and a singer = early Depeche mode :) Well, this is simplified but you see what I mean. No point in making advanced crap. Just focus on good melodies and rythms. And think about how to tell your story with sound. What is the logic? Just some friendly advice :)

Wow, thank you! It is very kind of you giving me these advice. I'm mostly a metalhead and I have no issues composing pretty cool metal songs, even though I can only play piano. VST instruments work miracles. I guess it's because I listened to rock and metal since my early 20s (2003-2004). But now I am more and more into those mega-melodic 80s songs but I am still struggling to get the hang of it. If you care to listen to one of my takes. Thanks. I have done a lot of work on it. Finished the bass, the arpeggios, and most of the drums. The strings solo is almost done. Getting everything right takes a lot of time and I have to work on it in between work and other projects. Thanks for your interest :)
